March 17, 2010

will the real irish please stand up?

went to the oasis tonight to celebrate
st. patrick's day.
it was packed.

everyone was dressed in green,
some wore feather boas,
tall funny hats,
head bands with jiggly, sparkly shamrocks,
tshirts with some type of irish slogan
"kiss me i am irish"

my friend was there and i said,
hey why didn't you dress up?
"i don't need to dress up to be irish.
i am irish.
i am the real deal
the rest of plastic paddy's!"

so here is pauline,
the real deal
a wonderful irish girl who lives on the island for the past 8 years
volunteering self lessly at the clinic
throwing great dinner parties,
the life of the party.
a heart that is truly made of gold.

today she quizzed me so i will quiz you for the fun of it
what is the irish symbol?
i said lion.
she sighed and said the shamrock!
duh!
did you know that it stands for the Father, Son and Holy Spirit?
i didn't.
what are the colors of the irish flag?
green? umm...
green, white and gold.
not orange.
it is gold.
what does this mean in gaelic?
pog mo thoin!!!
(kiss my ***)
i hate to close on that note so i will leave you with a lovely irish
blessing

May the blessing of light be on you—
light without and light within.

May the blessed sunlight shine on you
and warm your heart...
till it glows like a great peat fire. "

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

oh by the way, the guy in the green is from Dublin too!
the rest of us were wannebes!
