look who made her appearance!

how many of you have been given plants from friends

only to have them not grow or bloom?

that happens to me alot

i try but for some reason they just don't 'take'

and it is discouraging

well back in october i went to see brandi's friend 

on the beach and she gave us LOTS of plants

and i am happy and thrilled to say that they all survived

mind you, this is our rainy season and everything is growing

at a ridiculous rate

this flower was given to me by emilia and

both carlos and i often go on 'flower patrol'

by that i mean we wander slowly through the garden 

looking for plants that have bloomed

well today carlos exclaimed

'oy, la flor es que bonita!!!'

(oh, the flower is beautiful!)

and i can't agree more.

so lovely isn't it?

this morning carlos and i did some serious work in the garden

the one bed is 'rather empty' so with bob and brandi's advise

we decided to fill it with some big plants

it meant alot of work for carlos, digging and lugging huge plants 

around 

while i said, okay just turn it abit, maybe a bit more, over a bit...

until we got it 'just right'

but this is excellent for carlos to learn to plant and design a garden

it is a work in process

or as carlos says 'poco a poco' which means little by little

we put in the plant with the 3 spiky things, the tall red one beside it,

the little reddish green bush on the left and a huge hibiscus (which you can't see)

next step:   medium plants and small floral plants along the edge.

hold on to your hats!

today has been very windy as tropical storm tomas

goes by

we aren't being affected by it except for the wind

as i took this photo

i was leaning against a palm and it was battering up against me

carlos hollered through the wind:

el mar es muy bravo!!

which means

the sea is very mean!

yes it sure is

we were without power for most of the day

bob went to the shop today as norwegian spirit

was in the coxen hole port

but marco didn't call him til after 1:00

that is island time for ya!

as it was sales weren't too good because by the time

bob got there most of the tourists were heading back to the ship

oh well.

i am grateful for bob's willingness to just stop what he is doing

and head over to the made in roatan shop

i always feel bad for the cruisers on days like today

when the weather isn't idyllic

i hope they had a good day

with no power

i resigned myself to reading

my heel is getting better and better everyday

and i am grateful for that

well i should go and make some supper

in case we lose our power again with all these high winds

you just never know here

muy bravo!! that white line is surf which we don't usually get

usually the travelers palm leaves are smooth but they are getting all torn up

see how windy it is!!  sorry for the blur but with my heel i can't get on the ground too easily

jonesville point

a walk way to the sea and sky

this little bridge is at the end of the point

and charlie, our guide, who took us

through the mangroves

told us

'dis is where we's goes swimmin'

da wada she be real clear here'

oh i should tell you!

while i was flying home 

to roatan 

a couple of ladies overheard that i lived

in roatan and one of them

joanna

came over and asked if i'd take them on a tour

of course!

we had a great day together

isabel and joanna

two wonderful chicks 

from new york

made my day!

we went to miss peggy's clinic where

joanna gave a donation of medical supplies

then we went to jonesville

through the mangroves

enjoyed a nice visit with flora at 

punta gorda and the serene quiet of 

the simple  life there

went through coxen hole

visited the 'made in roatan' shop

where we picked up bob

then they wanted to go up in the colonia

so i took them there

we ran into roberto (not literally)

from channel 4 

and he introduced us to a family

so poor

yet so happy.

a young girl was there happily washing clothes outside

by hand

when he told us that the 8 year old girl

hadn't gone to school yet

both isabel (a teacher)

and i (a softie)

both started to cry.

there are so many needs on this island.

we need wisdom to know what to do

i gave them some money to help with food

but i think i will go back there with more for them

or perhaps you'd like to sponsor

the girl to go to school??

it costs about 500L (35.00) a year

for school supplies, fees

and the uniform to go to school.

worth the wait

sometimes a sunset 

becomes more like 

a 

masterpiece

and i stand in awe

of all that beauty.

night after night after night

the sun sets

and it is easy to get accustomed to them here

i had seen the sunset

15 minutes earlier it looks like this

and said to bob ... 

"well let's go home now, that wasn't so great"

and then...

i turned around and saw the sky a blaze of pink

and yellow and mauve

within minutes the

'not so great sunset'

became spectacular.

i am learning something these days.

wait.

don't be in such a hurry.

just wait

and things

will get better

i am still struggling with

neck, back and nerve pain

i wish i'd get better right away

i need to wait

i miss my kids terribly

i need to wait.

we didn't have internet for the past few days
it was hard to wait.


Those who wait upon the Lord WILL renew their strength!
